Role of the Board
The Board of Directors is the policymaking body of the Society. As such, it:
- Determines where the organization is headed; its values, vision, products and services, and strategic initiatives.
- Anticipates the current and long-range needs of the FMS membership and guides the Society in fulfilling those needs.
- Determines the structure of the Society and approves its annual operating plan and its yearly budget.
- Interprets the Society’s goals and purposes for the membership and for local chapters.
- Encourages individuals to develop and improve their professional skills through involvement in FMS activities.
Board Composition
The Board of the Financial Managers Society is composed of the following 17 positions:
- Four National Officers (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Immediate–Past Chairman, and President)
- Nine Directors-at-Large
- Four Council Chairmen—the chairmen of our advisory councils : Finance, Accounting, Strategic Issues and Internal Auditors (Council Chairmen are appointed by the FMS Chairman)
Nominating Committee
A Nominating Committee is appointed yearly by the FMS Board of Directors and is composed of seven individuals—its Chairman, who is the Immediate-Past Chairman of the Society, and six individuals who are well acquainted with the Society’s goals and purposes.
The Nominating Committee selects candidates who will be elected to office at The Finance & Accounting Forum for Financial Institutions each June.
Criteria for Nomination
Among the criteria considered by the Nominating Committee when examining candidates are the following:
- Leadership/management experience
- Previous involvement with FMS, either as a local or national volunteer or as an active user of FMS’s products and services
- Ability to play a proactive role in creating and/or maintaining the Society’s strategic direction, vision, and values
