Role of the Councils
Standing advisory councils are composed of both regular and affiliate members offering you an opportunity to:
- Make a tangible contribution to the members of FMS by helping to define and meet specific membership needs
- Share your professional and financial institution expertise with other industry members
- Strengthen your ties with the financial institution community by working with other dedicated financial officers and suppliers toward a common goal
- Gain additional exposure in either your current responsibilities or new areas of financial institution management
Accounting Council
Monitors operational and management accounting, regulatory reporting, tax and related technology needs of membership and industry.
Finance Council
Monitors asset/liability management, funding, investment and related technology needs of the membership and industry.
Internal Audit Council
Monitors the enterprise risk management, internal auditing and related technology needs of the membership and industry.
Strategic Issues Council
Monitors the strategic planning, capital management, corporate governance, merger and acquisition and related technology needs of the membership and industry.
Time/Financial Commitment
Council membership is open to any FMS member. Each council reflects the demographics of FMS membership with up to ten members who serve two-year renewable terms. Councils meet once a year face-to-face at The Finance & Accounting Forum (FMS pays half of the registration fee), twice during the year via conference call and throughout the year via e-mail.
All members are encouraged to attend The Finance & Accounting Forum for Financial Institutions. There is an informal event at The Forum to thank council members and welcome new council members.
Participation Requirements
- FMS national membership
- Technical expertise or interest within the functional area
- Broad perspective on member, industry and professional needs, interests and concerns
- General awareness of the types of products and services used by FMS members
- Desire to contribute to the identification of needs of the membership
- Ability to attend one face-to-face Council meeting (either at The Finance & Accounting Forum for Financial Institutions or a meeting developed by the council)
- Time and ability to provide periodic feedback on potential FMS products or services initiatives when requested
Note: If a Council member misses two successive meetings in one year unexcused, he or she will be relieved of the Council assignment.
